Salma is a lawyer by profession and an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with specialisation in Electoral and Election laws; Children law; Constitution and Human Rights law; Children law and Gender based Violence among others.
 
Currently she heads the Office of the Speaker of the County Assembly. Apart from her administrative roles, her other role is conducting oversight, to legislate and represent – in pursuit of effective service delivery and governance within County Governments and County Assemblies.
 
In the last General Election, Salma contested for an elective seat, as a youth, she is passionate about progressive democracies, good governance and inclusive political leadership platforms for all.
 
Salma is a young leader that advocates for an array of various rights through Mentorship activities under the program: MENTOR THEM WITH Wakili Salma Ochieng. This platform focusses majorly on political and leadership advocacy, devolution and governance law, youth mentorship and women mentorprenuership.
 
Salma is a life Member of the Orange Democratic Party (ODM), a youth delegate and also a member of the women’s league.
 

My main objective is to ensure that the various policies being passed as legislations should meet the two third gender rule/ affirmative action. This is the only way we shall have seen milestones in political spaces.
